They journey of an entrepreneur is 1000 % meeting beautiful people and Nelly Zagury is one of them. I’ve met Nelly few years ago at the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey.

Nelly is an artist. At the time, she was working on Holy Faya with Celia Elmasu, an industrial designer and both had their artist studio and spread their vision throughout strong artistic projects with impactful statements like their jewelry design project with the Black Live Matter movement for the AFROPUNK NY festival.

What has always touched me and strike me is Nelly’s vision of raw and powerful creativity in which she always completely dive into, without any compromises. She stands out firmly for her beliefs and convictions , and she then expresses it throughout her art, often with a lot of boldness I must say.

With a new year comes new projects and when I received Nelly’s “Songs of my Fantasy”, it was again pure joy and pleasure enjoying her verses and poems inspired by the arabic culture and deeply rooted in female and her sensuality. “Songs of my Fantasy” is the ACT I of 3 ACTS of an Erotic Opera that will take place in 2019 that Nelly wants to stage.

Nelly gives a voice to the unseen, the subtle, the unconscious, the kind of rejected sexual fantasies we, as women, all have.

As Nelly is in L.A. and I am Paris, I asked Nelly what was her songs about in order to share her vision with you, and this is what she answered :

“Songs Of My Fantasy ” was born a few months ago after I moved to Los Angeles, I have always had a visual art practice, like a multi-headed monster (creation of images and videos, costumes & jewelry, scenography and staging) but the writing is a new field of exploration I tell wonderful stories by survival, as Scheherazade in the 1001 Nights.

It is by “chatting” on whatsapp with a group of close friends, joking and telling each other our intimate stories; in rhymes; that it really started. In a very intuitive way, with a lot of pleasure and without any “langue de bois”. I realized the infinity of possibilities that opened with writing. Writing has become a way of returning to the essence of my practice, in the heart of storytelling and staging.

I immersed myself in the 1001 Nights and Arab erotic culture, Pierre Louÿs, Alejandro Jodorowsky, William Blake and the classics of mythology. The inspirations are vast but come together around the importance of heritage and oral tradition, folklore and a form of surrealism.

My artistic expression is strongly related to kitsch, ornamental, sexual and dream. I have visions and concepts that can be expensive and complex to implement. One foot after another, I have drifted my imagination, immersing myself in personal experiences that I mixed with iconic stories.
This is the story of a girl in 2018 who globally makes big films in her head, have hard times in love and life stories where she learns. There is humor, a lot of self-mockery is important!

I tackle subjects of our generations like female masturbation and vibrator addiction in “The Lamp of The Genie”.

In “The Gypsy Woman And The Palm Tree” I question the model of the classic couple and the feminine / masculine role plays.

Finally “The Woman Fountain And Piano Mâle” is an ode to women fountains and all those excluded from “sexual normality”.

I always dreamed of making a contemporary opera, to stage my fantasies. The poetry and the realization of these illustrations are like the skeleton of a vast mise en scene where the reader makes his own music. That’s what’s great with poetry, it’s open and alive.
